These originally came with a black pickguard. I consider the white guard an upgrade. Saddles have been changed from vintage style to modern block saddles. Yellowed plastics for vintage look. Guitar is very clean with only one ding on the upper edge. Frets are A+ condition. No case. I do a full cleaning and setup on all guitars. (Details on my setups and packing at bottom of listing.) (PS: This is not a "poly" finish, but neither is it nitro. It's a"urethane" finish that appears to be much thinner than the modern poly type.) Thanks for looking!

Guitar Setup
All setups are done by our in-house luthier. Setup includes new strings (9s or 10s depending on what the nut is cut for), overall polish, cleaning any gunk off fingerboard, oiling neck, and polishing frets when necessary. We spray out any pots that are noisy, turn the truss rod (if necessary) and set string height at low-to-medium action depending on string buzz present. Since setup is highly subjective you may need to get it set to your particular needs by your personal luthier. Basses get the same treatment minus the string change. Thanks!
Packing
I use quality boxes, thick bubble wrap, and peanuts to pack guitars. I have a very high rate of successful guitar and bass shipping (meaning few damaged instruments). I have been doing this 10 years and know how to pack well--with or without a hard case. The Fender American Special Stratocaster is a beautiful guitar anyway, because firstly it is a Strat, secondly it is made in America and thirdly it is affordable too! But Fender takes this one step further and comes with this limited Factory Special Run version. The FSR American Special Stratocaster Ash has been upgraded with a beautifully grained ash body finished in a transparent Vintage Blonde lacquer. It also has yellowed cartridge caps and knobs, plus a three-ply black pickguard. Together with the larger head, these provide that typical seventies vintage look.
FSR American Special Stratocaster Ash: Texas sound
For the elements of the FSR American Special Stratocaster Ash, Fender chose nothing less than a set of Custom Shop Texas Specials. These Alnico 5 single-coils are characterized by their tight basses, fierce mids and crystal clear trebles. An ideal combination with the full, rich and sparkling sound of the ash body. These pickups are also “overwound” giving them more output and a fatter sound. The electronics consist of a volume knob and two Greasebucket tone controls. Unlike the traditional tone knobs on a Strat, this lets you filter out the highs without adding lows and making the sound muddy. A very welcome option on an already complete Strat!
Modern “player” Strat
The neck of the FSR American Special Stratocaster Ash is made from a single piece of maple wood and features a modern “C” profile. The slightly flatter 9.5 inch fingerboard radius and 22 jumbo frets offer you optimal playing comfort. The back of the neck has been given a matte finish for a silky smooth feel without sticking when sliding.
