MORE DETAILED PICS: GIBSON LES PAUL MELODY MAKER MEDIUM RELIC
This Gibson Melody Maker had a pretty translucent wine red finish that showed some really amazing wood grain underneath. We like the dual soapbar P90s and thin, light body on this guitar. Even with the simple wraparound tailpiece it intonated perfectly. The single gold knob gives it that extra little boost. We sanded the neck all the way up to 5000 grit for a glassy smooth feel and removed the pickguard for cosmetic reasons. We often dream up imaginary previous owners and base our work on their playing style. For instance, the wear pattern on back of the neck behind the low frets here was due to a rhythm player who spent most of his time playing open chords and often wrapped his thumb over the top of the fretboard to cover the low E string. (He also apparently liked to rest his thumb above the control knobs for swells and changing volume on the fly--thus, the small wear mark above the knobs.) Finally we buffed it out for a shiny look, which may or may not be real-world true, but hey, it looked good! (see original listing with price)
