Packing
Search "How to Pack a Guitar + Hot Girls" on YouTube for a video showing how I pack. I use quality boxes, thick bubble wrap, and peanuts to pack guitars. I have been doing this 15 years and know how to pack well--with or without a hard case. You can also read my packing blog post on my StillKickinMusic website. If you Google "Still Kickin - How to Pack a Guitar" you will find it. Thanks.
Manufacturer Info
The Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII is a modern reincarnation of the 1965 classic. This 12-string electric guitar features a resonant, balanced-sounding alder body cut into an uber-comfortable offset shape. Plug in and enjoy crisp, clear, jangling tones by way of two unique split-coil pickups, while a streamlined 3-way pickup selector switch enables hours of sonic exploration. The Alternate Reality Electric XII’s playability is second to none, thanks to its cozy Modern C-shaped neck and easy-playing 9.5"-radius fingerboard. An adjustable hardtail bridge with 12 individual saddles ensures exceptional intonation (it takes a while to get it dialed in, but when you do it’s spot on). The Alternate Reality Electric XII includes a classic hockey stick–style headstock and vintage-style tuners. If you’re searching for a purpose-built 12-string electric for your next folk rock gig, this is it. Better brush up on your Byrds riffs first, though.
The Alternate Reality Electric XII — a 1965 classic reincarnated
Built in 1965, the original Fender Electric XII was a 12-string guitar that was designed around an offset Jaguar/Jazzmaster-style body. What set it apart from similar instruments was that it was purpose-built to be a 12-string electric — Fender didn’t just slap six extra strings on an existing 6-string model. Marketed toward the burgeoning folk rock market, the Electric XII wasn’t a strong seller. That said, it was used on a range of notable recordings, including the Who's Tommy and Velvet Underground's eponymous third album, along with Cream's "Dance the Night Away," Jeff Beck’s "Beck's Bolero," Bryan Adams' "Summer of '69," Live's "Run to the Water," and Led Zeppelin's immortal "Stairway to Heaven." The Electric XII was discontinued in 1969. Armed with a jangly sound and classic, eye-catching contours, the Alternate Reality Electric XII pays homage to this classic instrument.
Unique split-coil pickups deliver gorgeous jangling tones
The Fender Alternate Reality Electric XII boasts a unique split-coil pickup design. The sound of these pickups is pure Fender, though — crisp, clear, and balanced. The original Electric XII featured a 4-way pickup rotary switch that allowed for a complex array of configurations. For the Alternate Reality version, however, Fender opted for a streamlined 3-way toggle switch for pickup selection.
Comfortable Modern C-shaped neck with hockey stick–style headstock
Playing the Alternate Reality Electric XII is pure joy, thanks to its ultra-cozy Modern C-shaped neck and easy-playing 9.5"-radius fingerboard. This neck is made of rock-solid maple with a pau ferro fingerboard loaded with 22 medium-jumbo frets. This is the perfect neck for this instrument — even after hours of chording, this 12-string electric still feels comfortable. Of course, an Electric XII isn’t an Electric XII without a hockey stick–style headstock, and this guitar obliges — Alternate Reality be darned!
