Description (More pics below)
Up for sale is an early Hondo II Longhorn in Copperburst finish with original hard case. It has “Hondo II” silk screened on the headstock and says “Professional” on the truss rod cover, indicating it was made in the late 70s to early 80s in the Tokai factory in Japan. If you see other models with the “H” logo on the headstock, these are later Korean-made models of lower quality.

Paying homage to the Danelectro Guitarlin, the Longhorn has its own twist employing a single powerful humbucker with unique switching options. While all the interior wiring looks original I can’t verify whether this is the original switching setup from the factory, especially since Hondo seems to have had different options available.

Switching

This guitar has one 3-way switch that toggles between three different coil options. The middle option is a very out-of-phase sound that will only appeal in special situations, while the other two are fuller sounding. The second switch is a kill switch. The final switch turns the onboard preamp on/off, and boy oh boy is it a preamp. Get ready for epic distortion sounds from that option.

Specs
— Multiple switching options w/ +3db battery powered boost.
— D shaped maple neck w/ 31 frets!
— 10” radius rosewood fretboard, medium frets
— 24.5” scale neck w/ brass bridge & nut
— Width at nut = 1.66”, at 12th fret = 2.06”
— Neck thickness at nut = .82”, at 12th fret = .91”
— Includes original case and 1993 Guitar magazine w/ Longhorn on the cover

Condition

This one is in excellent condition, especially for its age. The finish is vibrant with only the most minor signs of play wear— no major dings, scratches, or scuffs. Frets are in excellent condition. Ships quickly from a trusted seller with full insurance. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks.

Short video showing how I pack a guitar.

Guitar Setup

Setup includes new strings (9s or 10s depending on what the nut is cut for), overall polish, cleaning any gunk off fingerboard, oiling neck, and polishing frets when necessary. We spray out any pots that are noisy, turn the truss rod (if necessary) and set string height at low-to-medium action depending on string buzz present. Since setup is highly subjective you may need to get it set to your particular needs by your personal luthier. Thanks!

Packing
I use quality boxes, thick bubble wrap, and peanuts to pack guitars. I have a very high rate of successful guitar and bass shipping (meaning few damaged instruments). I have been doing this 15 years and know how to pack well--with or without a hard case. I wrote a detailed story with photos on how I pack a guitar, which you can find on my StillKickinMusic site blog. If you Google "Still Kickin - How to Pack a Guitar" you will find it. Thanks.

About Me
My store is a one-person small business that has been selling used guitars and basses for 15 years now. I do a basic setup and cleaning on every instrument I sell, so depending on workload it may be 1-2 business days before your guitar ships. When it arrives you can depend on it being, clean, set up, and securely packed. Check my feedback for confirmation. Thanks!
